Fear Mongering, misconception, or true?

spencer Wrote:I understand that anal sex would make you more likely to get stds than vaginal sex...but...obviously..straight men have anal sex with women. So does that mean people actually believe that gay men having anal sex is more risky than a straight man having anal sex with a woman?

Technically speaking the idea of risk comes in that a gay man is having a lot of unprotected sex (especially anal), whereas the idea is that women do not (nor shoot up, etc), and so if she's with a guy who's faithful then she's a lot less likely to catch anything. But then if her husband has a lot of sex with prostitutes (female as well as male) then she's in more danger of catching all kinds of STDs, including AIDS, then many careful gay men (even if it's purely vaginal).

But bigots just accept whatever circumstances are most convenient to imagine as universal truths, so they don't think of faithful gay men or unfaithful husbands, etc. Furthermore, the idea that marriage settles men down and thus cuts down risk factors isn't something they're going to consider because it's inconvenient...instead they twist it in their twisted minds as saying approval for gay marriage is approval for gay orgies with strangers on a daily basis...and that's literally how their dysfunctional brains work, btw.

Total garbage, I wouldn't take any notice of it.

Bottom line , in this day and age everyone that practices unprotected sex is at risk.

Until the 1980's there was some truth there. However with the AIDS epidemic, LGBT take a lot more care, even our porn was 'safe' before government mandated safe sex this year for porn.

The only reason why we might have more STDs is because gays are more apt to have more random sex - but that is a male thing not so much a gay thing.

I've been talking to one of those people for the last week.(Through a forum)
We're now onto arguing if there's such thing as the "gay lifestyle".
So obviously he means AIDS, promiscuity and drugs; and how it's a gay thing.(Which he's yet to prove, albeit I haven't poked him that bit yet. First I want him to prove the three things are common in most homosexuals...)

You seem to hit the nail on the head.

I have to take issue with people saying that it's complete nonsense. Gay men are far more likely to contract HIV than the general public. Anal sex is more likely to transmit HIV. The virus is more prevalent in the community, thus exposure is more common. And gay men have more sexual partners on average than the general public.

In 2010 there were roughly 29k new HIV infections from male-male sex in the USA, and roughly 13k from heterosexual contact. This disparity is particularly alarming when you consider that gay/bi men are 2-5% of the population. This makes the likelihood of contracting HIV for gay men much higher than the general public. There's no room for complacency about HIV in the gay community.

Some studies suggest that more than 20% of gay men in the US could be HIV+.

Another thing about bigots & convenience is marriage is about breeding to them ONLY when it's a question of sexual orientation...but I have yet to meet one (and I've encountered a lot) who thought that say the elderly should be prevented from marrying or that couples had a set amount of time before acquiring children first.

And plenty also say that if gay marriage is allowed we'll go extinct, apparently because EVERYONE will be gay and NO ONE will breed...and the human race is already an endangered species, our numbers are so low...Rolleyes

Oh, that reminds me! From the novel Contact by Carl Sagan where Ellie is being interviewed to see if she's qualified to act as an ambassador for Earth to unknown ETs presumed to be on Vega:

Quote:"What do I think of 'the world population crisis'?" Ellie was saying. "You mean am I for it or against it? You think this is a key question I'm going to be asked on Vega, and you want to make sure I give the right answer? Okay. Overpopulation is why I'm in favor of homosexuality and a celibate clergy. A celibate clergy is an especially good idea, because it tends to suppress any hereditary propensity toward fanaticism."

Ellie waited, deadpan, indeed frozen, for the next question.

Published in the 80s this was probably a very brave thing to put in. Confusedmile:
