Confession... dentist
#1
Had this in my mind after my experience today, wanted 2 get it off my chest......

Going to the dentist 2 get my filling patched up from my broken tooth, it fell of yet again.
It was a different dentist to i normally have (emergency appointment) and she started asking questions around 'why there is so much wear on my teeth' and has my usual dentist discussed this with me. So I was all like, we dont talk about why, its just how it is, I get my teeth patched up as needed.

But she wasnt gonna let this one lie, and asked me if I'd had problems with making myself sick in the past, and I said yes, and she said do you still, and I was like yes. Then she asked if I was getting help... nope. And she said would i like her 2 refer me some (who knew dentists did that??) and I was again saying... nope, no thank you.

I felt so weird after the whole thing, ive never had a dentist talk to me about it before- i told my usual dentist so she wouldnt have to bring it up (ha ha no pun inteded) so she just bears it in mind and doesnt say. I felt like 'damn dentist, i am not wanting to deal with this right now, I dont want to talk about, stop being so caring' no one can help me, there is no point, this is just how my life is....... and DAMN crumbling teeth, betraying me, cant keep a secret from the dentist, even if everyone else. ten years sickness takes its tole Sad

uuuugh rant over, thank yooou!

I'm assuming this is Bulimia?
After 10 years, it must be be having very negative impacts on your body as well as your teeth. You'll be starved of nutrients, leading to all sorts of problems.

By writing this, it seems you might be ready to face it head on. I sincerely hope so Anon, cause you must know its like banging your head against a wall....you've got to stop sometime, and this looks like a good chance to get help.

I wish you well, but only you can make that happen.

Well, it sounds as if someone was really caring of your personal health and that ought to be good, no?

I know it must have felt like a huge intrusion on your privacy.
Try to think of it as someone that cares,I have no doubt you are dealing with this the best you can right now.

Please never feel ashamed to ask for help , there is no shame in it at all.
Perhaps in the mean time you could ask for some nutritional supplements to help out.

We are here for you.

I know you must have been uncomfortable talking about it and the dentist probably felt . the same bringing it up, however she would not be doing her job if she didn't at least try. Imagine if you had been at the very point where you were ready to have some help - your post would then have been about how your dentist is amazing!

I agree with Aquarian. You have to admit you have a problem then ask for professional help. It's difficult for us unprofessionals to do anything else than offer our best wishes.

Despite of the fact it was an intrusion to your privacy, she is a doctor, I think that a good doctor should be selfless and should take care of other people.

It's the cruel truth.
Especially with 'this' kind of matters.

So a medical professional recommended healthy advise. Who would have thought?

My partner does some basic software maintenance for different businesses, one company had problems recovering a backup file. When he looked to see what the problem was the backup software had filled up the drive and hadn't backed up anything for the past 6 months (luckily the file that needed was older than that), when he asked them if they'ed had any problems.
They said they had been getting errors popup and the IT specialist had come in to fix it (all he had done was disable the error messages).

Needless to say the IT specialist was fired on the spot (these regular backups where highly important and if the system had gone down they would have lost everything)

Band-aid solutions that only mask the warning signs are never a good idea, anyone that doesn't question anything and is happy to just take your money really should be avoided.

I'd prefer more dentists/doctors/health professionals that were much more pushy with trying to solve the underlying causes rather than just patching things up.
There should be no privacy with a doctor that is trying to help, that is why they have doctor-patient confidentiality.
