It's really hits me to think of people being born and raised in those camps, never knowing about life on the outside, never knowing how different their existence is from other people... It just is so heavy to think that people are raised thinking that is what life is...
Which holocaust book are you going to read? What about these terrible things interest you?
I always visit this one bookstore during lunch break on every Friday. I love to read fiction but have tendency to read history and myths.
Last week I browsed the History section in the bookstore and found many books on Holocaust/Nazi/alike. I was attracted to one book in particular; a Jewish who was also a doctor found his way to Nazi camp. He didn't tell anyone that he was Jewish, I think. But he witnessed a lot of gruesome things happened there. His wife and daughter were captured and sent to a camp too.
I read few pages on spot (in the bookstore) but haven't purchased it yet. I've reached my money-spent quota for this month. So I will buy it once I get my salary.
What attracts me to these horrible things? Good question. I don't think I can narrow down to one answer.
A sense of pity and sympathy; these people went through horrid stuff in the past for our comfort today. A sense of acknowledgement so their deaths are not wasted, reminder to us (present) and respect to them.
Additionally, we in Malaysia are not exposed to holocaust, Nazi and its history for an example; because it's an Islamic country. Holocaust is related to Jewish so anything relates to Jewish, Israel and alike are seen as our enemies. We were taught this way since we were kids. It continues until you become adult.
Few weeks ago before Friday's pray, a preacher gave a preach on how Jewish and Christians are (insert not good words) and Muslims are good people. Basically Muslims are the superior beings; the innocent and right ones. Go figure.
