Just finished 'A Wild Sheep Chase" by Murakami and about to start 'The Picture of Dorian Grey'.

Once I'm done with Dorian Grey I'd like to explore some mystery novels! I've had lots of bad experiences with that genre even if I adore playing detective myself (I can't finish the book and reveal the perpetrator unless I have a theory I believe in ) but some stories I've read are so insulting where the detective relies on information the reader doesn't have access to or where EVERYTHING is solved through a series of secret passages. Knox would be pissed...

So can anyone recommend me an actual crime/mystery novel? I was thinking Agatha Christie but since I've never read any of her books I can't tell if they're what I'm looking for at the moment.

Just read Game Control and Big Brother by Lionel Shriver. So good. SO gooood! Read each one in a day, great reads. So, I suppose I'll be getting my hands on some more of her books now!

So can anyone recommend me an actual crime/mystery novel? I was thinking Agatha Christie but since I've never read any of her books I can't tell if they're what I'm looking for at the moment.

Christie's novels are whodunnit's that are mostly supposed to be solvable by the reader, which is what made her a big hit. Sherlock Holmes novels are silly, campy fun in their own right.

Raymond Chandler's The Big Sleep is quite good if you like those 1930s American P.I. stories.
