They say the GOP, which is abandoning the fight against gay marriage seeing it as a battle that they can't win (with even moderates in their own party, even career politicians, saying it's wrong to reject equality), will not get their votes or money if they don't start marching to their drum again:

What's really good about this is the Best Comments section, so many people are saying, "Good riddance, maybe the Republicans can start winning again," with so many more likes than dislikes, and even those who seem to wish the Republican Party well are dismissing the Christian Right in utter contempt (like suggesting they call their own party the Bat Shit Crazy Party, and another pointing out what happened the last time they tried running Pat Robertson before they came back to the Republicans).

I'm trying not to get my hopes up but I am so hoping the Christian Right carries out its threat. Please, Goddess, please...see, I want it so bad I'm even PRAYING! (Hey, at least the Christian Right got me to pray, even if it's to the Goddess.)

I'm no conservative and I'm British so I don't really get a say but I wish you luck.

A reasonable, pragmatic force for conservatism has to be better than a party trying more to fulfill biblical prophecy than improve peoples lives.

It needs to happen. Karl Rove engineered a win for George Bush by using the Christian Right. George W. barely squeaked by further embracing their radical ideology and mainstreaming it. The problem? They truly ARE batshit crazy!!! And batshit crazy, religious ideologies do NOT translate well to the majority of Americans. The split is bound to happen sooner than later. If they want to preserve their party for the future, they need to take the hit now and move on, which will guarantee a loss at the next election, but might help them to recapture middle America in the future. Or, they can keep playing with those ridiculous, radicalized, religious right nut-jobs and lose every election in the future. :biggrin:

US politics is a two party system. Demon~crates and Repug~lie~can'ts. Or whatever they are called.

Third party people have no real power, forget getting a third party president, it has only happened twice in US history, George Washington (first president) and Millard Fillmore (1850-1853) of the Whig Party.

George was a shoe in because there really wasn't two distinct parties at the birth of the nation. Fillmore was only the last of a traditional party (Whig) which was replaced by the Republican Party.

As a third party person, I am constantly forced to vote either Republican or Democrat simply because if I vote for a person of my party or another third party its like taking my ballot, shredding it, composting it and turning it into the soil. Worse, in some elections a third party candidates votes can be used to get the wrong guy into office, or the guy who you really don't want in office.

The real power is held by just two parties in the USA. Democrats and Republicans. If you want to have any real say, or have at least 50% chance of getting members into office you have to push yourself into either of these parties.

Americans are pretty deluded they have bought into the whole two party system, the majority flat refuse to entertain a third party for themselves.

Christians are a pretty conservative crowd (in public, we won't talk about all the sinning they do) so they fall into the group called 'conservative' Which is Republican.

Although Jesus was a Liberal and a Socialist, the Modern Christians can't stand for liberalism nor socialism... Go figure.
