It's not quite as crazy as you may think. The licence fee goes towards paying for the BBC that, as you might know, provides advertisment free TV. If you think about it, it amounts to just 39 pence (US$.60 a day). The BBC, like every TV company, puts out some trash at times but when it makes a good programme it is very good indeed and in my opinion, worth 30 pence a day.

Wow .. never heard of that. :eek:

What happens if you own more than one TV? do you have to pay the fee for each??

No, you cvan have as many TVs as you like, you still pay only one licence fee.

Well, that's one more thing you can add to your vast store of knowledge! But that apart, it is the reason why the BBC, in spite of all it's many faults, is one of the best TV broadcasters in the world.
