On last juin 1st, Matt Smith (who joined the show in 2009 and the youngest ever Doctor, at 26 ) revealed that he wouldn't be no longer the eccentric time traveler...
Yesterday, the Scottish actor Peter Capaldi has been named as 12th actor to play the Doctor... He is not completely new to this TV series... Remember, he ever had appeared playing in the episode "The Fires of Pompeii" in 2008!
And an other interesting thing is that he is the oldest actor to play that (role or part?) since the first Doctor, William Hartnell, in 1963.
May start watching it again, I have high hopes for this new doctor. Been a huge fan of the series in general, but every time one of my favorites left (Billie Piper, David Tennant), I had a bit of a waver.
However no matter how I tried I just couldn't bring myself to enjoy the new Doctor, or the show in general since Tennant left. I'm really hoping the stories start picking up again as well, because I really miss watching Doctor Who every week, but the last few seasons just didn't capture my interest. The Doctor was too annoying, the companions too dull, and the stories too convoluted.
See that is what I thought, Each regeneration of The Doctor he has steadily gotten younger and younger. AND there can only be thirteen incarnations in all.
Oh and for the record, The Forth Doctor (Tom Baker) was the very best and only doctor of note.
Of course you kids wouldn't understand that, he is before your time.

When was that ever established? Just because he's slowly gotten younger over the years doesn't mean he has to get younger, it was never explicitly stated. I'm pretty sure it was just a coincidence/desperate attempt to appeal to the younger, shallower generation. You should be grateful they aren't hiring some 20 year old to do it
Personally, I'm quite glad they've gotten a more mature doctor. Besides Tennant, I've always thought the best doctors were some of the original, and older ones. Sure, the companions can be as young as they like, but the best Doctors are the ones who look like they've actually lived a little.
And yeah, regeneration, blah, blah, older than they look, blah, blah... but at the end of the day, I wouldn't trust Matt Smith to tie my shoes, much less take me traveling through time. This guy, however, I would believe has been to the end of the world and back. I would actually trust him to take me on a trip in the Tardis without blowing it up.

Whether it was intentional or not, it has become part of the Dr. and how he "ages" when he regenerates. They shouldnt be contradicting that at this point of the story line....its been WAY too many years.
Plus, he just does NOT look like Dr. material. I dont care how good of an actor he is.
And for BA.......
Yes, Tom Baker was THE Dr. for me....until Tennant came along.
They are both equal in my eyes....because they both embodied ALL of the Dr.s that came before them, as well as added their own to the mix.
Matt Smith started well and brought some fresh life into the series. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the writers lost the plot about two episodes into the last series, and never really recovered.
Capaldi brings a maturity to the role not seen for sometime, so it will be interesting to see the direction the new series takes.
And he's Scottish. Get the subtitles ready for the BBC World (USA) broadcasts ;-)
