Tranny...
Anybody who's trans around here are you offended?
Someone I was interneting told me the being called a tranny is always an insult from a straight person.

It's all in the tone and context for me. I mean said in a certain tone (dripping with contempt) even, "Hey, you" can be offensive. Same with words like lesbo/lesbian, dyke, etc.

Hmmm...bad idea to refer to me as "carpet muncher," though in theory I might shrug it off as simply crude (if it were said lighthearted enough while in a silly mood, for example), though even offended I just might say, "You say that like it's a BAD thing." Heck, if a (presumably) straight man ever calls me that again I might have to throw it back at him (and that he'd never be as good as me at it).

I agree with Pix, I think tone and context are a huge factor. Someone can say a word as a joke, or even by accident and it doesn't really bother me (but most words don't anyway to be honest), however if it meant as an insult, no matter how lame, I will take it as such. The c-word for instance doesn't offend me anymore than the word bunnies... it's how/why it is used, and the intent behind it that affect me.
