Ancient Aliens
#1
I watched Ancient Aliens yesterday for the first time, and I have to say even though the ancient astronaut theory does raise some interesting questions for the most part it just seems like a lot of crackpot nonsense to me.But I would like hear what you guys and gals think about ancient astronaut theory.

I don't buy it, but it's fun to contemplate, and I do believe there's a lot in our ancient history (and even prehistory) that would be shocking if it became public knowledge, including leaps in technology that allowed electricity, flight, etc, in the ancient world but vanished.

One of the fics I'm working on (note: FICTION) has a slightly different take on it in that Earth was once dominated by a warlike saurial race, very dogmatic and territorial but also brilliant, and they developed an alternative technology while also keeping their numbers down and resources well hid and protected (because otherwise they'd be taken/destroyed by other clans) who responded to the devastating ice ages by playing with genetics and creating various slave species, one of them human, to serve them (and ancient mythology is a distorted and vague reflection of this).

But not only them, the Greys.

And then a lot more happened and there was a temporary (and treacherous) alliance between humans and Greys that became a very complicated Cold War of sorts in which the Greys, as keepers of their creator's technology, got the science, but they couldn't compete with humans who were far more clever in many ways and out bred them and developed resistance to the devastating plagues the Greys tried to use to keep the population in check, and this was what later inspired the "ancient astronaut" theory. However, the Greys are as much a native to this world as humans.

Nevertheless, the Greys were forced to retreat more and more and are currently trapped in the solar system unable to unlock the secrets of crossing the interstellar distances to escape the humans who are bound to find and then destroy them. Some have created a plan, however, to use the saurial genetic techniques (and refined) to abduct humans and alter them to turn them into agents who can then properly control society...however, what they don't realize is that they're making the same mistakes the saurials did in creating Greys and humans, they have a mind of their own and sometimes it shines through all the indoctrination, especially when the "hybrids" are put into human society (and find they fit in neither human nor Grey). And all this is what created the UFO craze since the 1950s and with the abductions, etc. Oh, and there are cabals within the government that know and intend to exploit the knowledge, but not the government as a whole (for example, the POTUS is completely in the dark, and is considered expendable by the cabals & conspiracies, it's really complicated to explain).

Anyway, just thought some might find it interesting. I'm kinda stuck with a heroine who's in a no win sitch right now though and not sure how she's going to get out of it (and working on other fics in the meantime).

Long before cable, there was PBS.
Then when cable tv was born, there was The Discovery Channel.
Then there was The History Channel, and all those other channels.

Ive been watching alien and UFO documentaries since I was in high school, watching this all on PBS.

The thing I learned from them is that, yes, they all are theories. There are no hard facts.
Yes, it seems that a lot of what they say has truth in it. But given that anybody out there with reliable people skills can get anybody to believe in anything, its difficult to know who is speaking from honest truth, and who is speaking for the sake of making money.

The other thing I have learned, is that you have to watch almost all of these types of programs in order to get any real idea of whats going on. Most of these shows/stories are one sided. You need to watch a few hundred of them to get any real "feel" for what is going on out there in the UFO/alien circles of science.

Most shows are just hearsay and wishful thinking, with tiny bits of truth or fact in them. You have to decipher what is and isnt the truth, and put it together with all the other truths from other viewpoints, shows, and documentaries in order to realize whats going on.

"Ancient Astronaut Theory" is not a theory.
I remember watching one episode of that, where the guy with the crazy hair said the Greek god Apollo was real, only his flying chariot was a flying saucer and his magic wand was a laser canon. I had a hard time taking him seriously after that.
A lot of people seem, seem, to forget what the U stands for in UFO. I remember watching one vid on a UFO case where the guy said he saw two floating orbs of lights flashing colors to each other as if communicating, with the ufologist saying most witnesses say it seemed as if it were a form of communication. What I don't understand is how people lack this skeptic nag I have: an alien species that is so smart, so advanced, that can traverse interstellar space within a lifetime, travel faster than light, yet communicates through flashing lights? I am highly skeptical of alien species that can master interstellar space travel yet have no form of radio.
Just because there are mysteries doesn't mean we have to be quick to give answers. The ruins of Pumapunku may be fascinating, but that doesn't mean we need to be quick to say aliens made it.

EDIT - by not a theory, I mean the scientific definition of the word theory. As in, germ theory or atomic theory. So, no, I don't believe it.

Yeah....even when I was in my teens watching these shows and documentaries....Im like "ok, WHY would some alien culture travel BILLIONS of lightyears to get to THIS crappy planet, much less try to keep themselves secret"??

I mean, really...there have to be much BETTER planets to visit in this universe.
Maybe this is the "pitstop" planet where they stop to use the restroom or dump their waste from their ships?

Yeah that crazy hair guy is SOOOOOO funny!!! I have never taken him seriously. I think he stuck his finger in a light socket one day.....that explains HIM. LOL

As for most "UFO's", a vast majority of them HAVE been explained, but thats not something they want published, simply because keeping the "mystery" going keeps the money coming in.

And as any REAL, HONEST, UFO scientist will attest too, the "U" in "UFO" stnads for UNIDENTIFIED, it doesnt stand for ALIENS.

I'm doubtful that an alien species came to earth, meddled in the affairs of earth then went away.

This isn't to say I don't believe there are advanced technological civilizations out there somewhere with the capability of coming to earth. If any are or have visited earth, I seriously doubt that have done more than observe, perhaps take a few specimens for closer examination.

Interference in a cultures natural progress? I do not believe so.

Those objects held up as 'evidence' tend to fail under closer examination. Such as the idea that those large stone spheres are perfect (none are perfect), or that the natives didn't have the tools - bounce one rock against another and you can chip away and make a rock into anything. The large stone structures... Stones to massive to be moved... Clearly someone doesn't understand pivot points and levers...

There are only three reasons for an alien species to come here.

1. To observe and study, to learn how life works.

2. To colonize. In which case we are all dead, it won't be a war, it will be an extermination.

3. For the only two resources that are not abundant in the universe (or so can tell). Chlorophyll and proteins - both products of life as we know it.

My Nana's side of the family has had innumerable accounts and experiences with paranormal stuffs, although no aliens to my knowledge, and as such I've been raised to be very open minded and aware of such things. Like i used to see dots walk along the walls of our house, in almost a thought out fashion, although I didn't develop occular problems until a few years later(now resolved for the most part).

But I do find it improbable that another intelligent race would pop by for a visit, however it's not impossible. Like religion, we do not know what really went down before our time, so if religion can be believed quickly, why not the possibility of other intelligent sentient beings?

I've even heard some people believe Jesus/God is/was an Alien, in the guise of a human to guide them in their endeavors.

Take the movie Prometheus for example, named after the man/god, whom some believe was also an alien, said to have given man knowledge of fire(amongst other things). They basically said humans were created by a race of similar appearance, but a different physiology all together and somehow either devolved(or evolved, depending on your opinion) to become humans. And explained the insatiable curiosity that we derived from our creators, to which in the movie we had created our own form of life, namely Androids.

Which isn't too far off the mark as it stands today, so what's to say we weren't created by something similar, if not for the sake of curiosity, but just because they/it could? The Android in the movie had a mind of his own, as we do ours, so what's to say Androids couldn't build more of themselves in a psuedo-human society, like how we may have done and did in the movie?

Like I said, my mind is open, so things like this can seem viable to me, however improbable. My Nana says Nothing's Impossible.

1. This is probably the most likely reason, however, wouldn't that mean they would have a plan, if not purpose for their research? Scientist research for a cause, so wouldn't they too?

2. This would render 1 & 3 redundant, as obviously the resources thrive where they are and any intelligent(besides humans, as I'm assumimg the species is more intelligent) being would know not to utilize resources with abandon or try to move/cultivate their own, and to annihilate us, would remove knowledge of how our planet works and how another intelligent organism can thrive here(assuming they can't without artificial assisstance) and any further progress that there is to be made.

After all, if Earth and it's inhabitants are unique, if not rare, then keeping us around would be the more intelligent action rather than all out eradication.

3. If protein is a product of life(which it is), wouldn't the species also share it, even if it's a different strand. As they are also a life form, so would have their own proteins, so where would theirs have come deom and would ours even be compatible?
