Feeling attracted to only White men racist?
#31
It's called "preference", like tasting food. Only recently did I think I could have potentially been with a black man. It's just skin, it would be warm, and it would bleed like any other.

If you're unattracted to them physically, or unattracted to them because of prejudices.
Most people fall into the former, which isn't racist, a few people fall into the latter which is racist.

I think that covers it pretty well...
I agree
Maybe I'm the opposite, I'm a white-caucasian guy found that the 'difference' are a very interesting thing (or exciting!!!), but honestly I found hot girls&boys of every shape and nationality.. XD
I see some friends that don't like 'strangers', people with a skin of another color etc.
I accept it, because it's not something very bad, but you have to accept to, it's some kind of prejudice, maybe unconscious.
In my opinion this is racism, even if not of the dangerous type, even if you call it in another way or you don't like to admit it.

BIG TIME LOL you are a disgrace to your own people and a disgrace for every other nationality that would be interested in you Smile... people like you should be lynched on public place.

No really joke aside. I am Black/Latino and I'm married to a whitey Blond - Gray Eyed - Twink sized Australian dude (yes he is amazingly hot looking... well so am I and I know it lol) And if you ask me what do I prefer... I prefer Caucasian and it's not because I don't find black guys unattractive... there are black dude that are very attractive and if you put them side to side with a Caucasian male they beat the shit out of them so much they shine of beauty. But yes will I choose Black or White... well honestly I'll go with the white one.

What are the reason? Preference and because I was raised among Caucasians I wasn't used to be surrounded with people my own color. My mom is white so is my dad and one of my sister, those I call cousins, granddad, grandma they're all Caucasians.

Quote:you are a disgrace to your own people
Yes I have heard this before and it was directed to me because I was not a normal black man... I was considered a "White Niger"

Racism is ignorance, it's xenophobia, it hatred of everything that isn't like you. Attraction is just a preference... I won't get offended if someone tells me I'm not into black men... I am not into Chinese and yet I have Chinese gay friends... do I hate Chinese because I am not attracted to them... hell know I love Chinese culture... so much I've learned of of their most ancient martial arts Shaolin Kung Fu... I am indeed a sifu, I love real Chinese food not the one they sell for tourists lol but I won;t fuck a Chinese guy because I am not interested in them that way. Plain and simple. And I'm not into black guys either.

But I do love Japanese dude and Japanese girl too lol Smile And my son is half black/Filipino

So the the initiator of the thread... no you're not racist... you just know what you want and that's just fine.

All by itself I would say no. Right now I'm taking an intercultural communications course, though, and it's causing me to examine systematic (unconscious and pervasive) cultural racism, so I wouldn't be completely oblivious to possible prejudices you may have. I'm only attracted to stubborn, athletic white guys most of the time, and have a lot of female friends of other racial and ethnic backgrounds, but am examining my prejudices towards men of color. I'm third generation Italian, though. My family is pretty awful about that stuff. The fact that you're concerned makes me wonder what else you think about the subject.

I would have to disagree with such a definitive description of racism. There are a lot of different ways to exhibit racism, and this only defines the obvious, as well as a misuse of the word ignorance. Ignorance means you are unaware of something, and have not been exposed to it. It has only recently picked up a negative connotation. It's a neutral term. Xenophobia also refers to "fear of that which is alien", [and] more refers to someone from another culture, versus that of another race. Both an American black man and a white man could be xenophobic towards [someone] from Uganda.

well they responses here seem pretty unanimous, but i'd like to look at this phenomena from a different perspective.

I'll first start by stating that i too can jump on most of the bandwagon. Sexual preference exists. People have em. It's normal. It's why we are all queer. It's what lets us say. hey i like guys who can grow a nice beard, or well i prefer ladies near my age group... etc. etc. So are you racist? probably not based solely on that information alone.

But lets look at it on a broader scale. I recently did a research paper on racial exlcusion on online dating profiles and the research out there was intersting. I had to ask, why is it that most (heterosexual) men prefer to date caucasions women and are willing to exclude people of other ethnicities. Why are (again heterosexual) women fine with dating black and white males but still selective towards other ethnicities. The discussion is broad and as with most social statistics it is a multidimensional, complex issue.

Some things that authors discuss based on the statistics:
Systematic racism*** Maybe our society is still experiencing enduring effects of past racism which dictates we should date within our own racial bubble.
So the explicit racism: "i won't date you because colored ppl are beneath me" is gone but the social expectation. "i just prefer to date people of ______ racial group" remains.

Cultural norms and media( such as when discussing why women are more wiling to date black men. an author would mention how black men can be portrayed in the media as masculine, powerful figures. )

The questions that we should probably keep asking ourselves

Why do we have these racial preferences?
Why do we have sexual preferences?

also I just saw sea devils response after writing this whole thing. lol

tl/dr. It's not a simple answer. Cultural issues are multidimensional. You're not racist, but your actions might be part of a continuity of racist intentions within our social system.

That's pretty interesting study... I did one more into gay pornographic and asking pretty much the same question I went around few different questions:

  • Are gay porn studio directors are racist?
  • Is it true that gay black guys don't want to feature in a gay porn movie (which explain why one is looking for college dudes it's almost always the very same pasty white skinny dudes)?
  • Is there a real demand for interracial porn?

I have used the data gathered and yes I announce there will be a studio featuring mostly interracial clips. Taking stereotypes away and bring all the color of the rainbow in one sitting.

The data I have collected are indeed showing a change in the demand but older studios do have a hard time going forward with the changes.

Pix Wrote:It's quite possible you are a bit pre-judging at some level, though in a more positive sense. A lot of people are attracted to a certain ethnicity because they imagine certain qualities in them. For example, I've noticed that an overwhelming number of straight women and gay men attracted very much to black men imagine them very domineering & aggressive while many straight men & gay men attracted to Far East Asians believe them submissive and accommodating, and that's what they want more than the race (to them the race is the most obvious likely means of getting what they want). At a conscious level they may realize how silly that is, but I keep seeing it in how they describe their preferred lovers, and especially their fantasies (that some share obsessively, and I've seen repeated examples of both black men as rough and Asian men as submissive here on GS since I joined, btw) of preferred lovers, they have a script in mind that they associate with them.

However, that wouldn't make you bigoted.

OTOH, I do recall seeing some black men on YT say they'd only date white women, essentially because black women were shrews who got in their business and white women were people they could walk all over (they didn't put it in those words but that's what it boiled down to). THAT is racist, IMO, even if it's gender specific. Not all black women are shrews, and if they tried treating me (for the sake of argument) the way they thought they could treat white women they'd be in for a very rude awakening. Oh, and an important difference with the "submissive Asian wo/man fantasy" is that there wasn't anything particularly sexual or romantic about it, it was just that they thought they could get away with things (like running off with the guys and not coming home for a couple of days as just one example), that is it was more "pragmatic" than sexually or romantically idealized.

Naturally, people can hate their own so-called race (and own gender, sexual orientation, etc) which could affect their dating life, but that's a different (and very depressing) topic, IMO.

Yeah, you're right! The reason why I usually perfer white males is because physically they look mature or atleast have that 'type' of face. While most Asian men ( like myself) have huge 'baby faces' and baby faces is one of my turn offs( which is quite ironic since I probably have the worst baby face ever)

That's also true, I was born and raised in Vancouver.

I'm more inclined to agree with what snugsy pointed out. Yes sexual preference isn't something thst you can manipulate at will but you can't deny that all across the world, in the globalised parts (which is imo, just a nice way of saying rampantly westernised) white people are seen as the ethnicity with the most sex appeal.

We all know that beautiful people exist in every country and every ethnicity, so why do white people appear to make up the bulk of what is portrayed and apparently also what is thiught of by many people as the ethnicity with the most sex appeal?

I don't believe that you can put this all down to personal preference. I think there is a clear stain from the blatant racist superiority from the past, in particular from the colonisation era.

In east Asia, models and people on TV are disproportionately white. Ever seen asian TV shows or underwear models? They're all white for no reason and you would be hard pressed to see a random underwear model of South Asian ethnicity for no reason in western countries.

If you ask yourself "Why do I find white people more attractive?" what would the answer be? It'd be "I just think they're prettier"

So, should we just accept that White people are the prettiest race?

That was never the case before globalisation.

All my life I've lived among Chinese people immersed in Western culture. I was born in a British colony, and moved to a city made up of roughly 1/4 Asian immigrants. I have to admit, people of caucasian descent seem to have more sexual appeal. This even pervades self-image for me. I've always felt less pretty among the white children in school, and there's always the underlying feeling that I'm being pressured to stick to my own race. This epistemic violence is everywhere. In Hong Kong and India and lots of other places, the rich and high class speak English. They throw off their cultural heritage and adopt one that has been hammered in as superior in the past, and now even worse is subtly implied and established as better.

So, in answer to OP, no you're not racist. But maybe the world hasn't quite and maybe never will lose the vestiges of colonisation and the inherent racial superiority imbedded in that.

Sometimes racism is hard to identify. and it can't be actively stopped by laws or social demand. It's part of the cultural contour that only time can change.

Racism, not in its full form, but in a sneaky dirty and invisible shape is alive and well today. Laws are made and words are spoken but you can't undo centuries of racial tension with a speech. Racismbis so much harder to combat today because the thibgs worth fighting against are subtle undetectable and impossible nearly to empathise with.

I don't thinj you can exclude sexual preference from racial issues. I don't want to call you a racist because you're not consciously making a judgemebt based on race. But I am saying undertones of racism are inherent in preferring one ethnicity over others.
