The Twilight Saga and gay men
#21
The Twilight series deserves to burn in the imaginary and fiery gates of hell. I live in Port Angeles, which is featured in the books, and during the movie releases our town was swarmed by twilight tween girls arguing over which "team" they were. Ew.

I'm not just making an uneducated assumption either; I read the books. They were just terrible. I couldn't get past the first movie, either.

I kinda have to agree there. I thought it is something unique,I mean,a nice change after decades of traditional vampires movies/series,but it's too pretty in Twilight. I need something as messy as True Blood. Tongue

Bowyn Aerrow Wrote:IDK who ever played Bella in the movies seemed to be more dead than the vampires. Her range of emotions is pretty difficult to detect. IDK if the books were written to have such a stoic/pale emotional character or not.

The last one with the fight scene was more up my alley for horror/science fiction stuff. I was not amused to discover that all the blood, gore was just a dream.

I think this movie series/book series was written to appeal to a female audience. Its more touchy feely than action packed.

I was disturbed by the idea that a 150 year old man (vampire) was after a girl under 18. That just didn't sit right with me. yeah sure, he looks like late teens early 20's, but he has 'lived' 150+ years... it just felt wrong.

I have tired of the Vampire and Werewolf Genre - so perhaps I'm just too jaded and exhausted by all of the takes there are on the undead. Thus I may be too critical of the movies.

I never read the books.

I just read have of the Sookie Stackhouse series (Tru-Blood) and found the books to be different than the TV show - not actually 'better'. So I'm wondering if I read the books if they would be different or better than the movies.

Actually it wasnt a "dream" per se. It was a vision of Alice's who has the ability to see the future. I think that part of the movie series was the best out of all of them. They basically won without shedding a single drop of blood and without anyone dying just because the Volturi would've had too many casualties; at least more than Aro would be comfortable sustaining. Through Aro's power of tactile telepathy he was able to see the vision(well technically he saw the thought of the vision she had because he can only see thoughts) that Alice had back when they realized that the Volturi were coming and she and Jasper left. Im not sure alot of people understood that for some reason as it was quite ambiguous and hurried in the movie.

Also isnt it alittle ironic that you claim that the vampire/werewolf and undead genres have been way overdone yet you portray yourself as a elf fan boi? Tongue No disrespect meant, just saying. Tongue I actually agree with you that they have been done and redone so much its not even funny at all, especially with vampires. Werewolves not so much but there is only so much you can do with werewolves. Undead will keep being reanimated(pun intended) for many years to come. For some reason people just love a good undead/zombie scary movie.

I didn't want to have to do this, but... you realize that Stephanie Meyer is against/donates to anti-gay marriage causes, yes...?

Actually, I didn't, though I can't say the idea surprised me (just as it didn't surprise me why fundies leave her books and movies alone, unlike the Harry Potter series). I frankly wonder how any female fans have any self-respect loving that (I can give teens some leeway on this for various reasons, but I'm glad one tween fan I knew quickly dropped her interest in Twilight after I introduced her to more wholesome characters). And now looking this up I find she's a Mormon (and for some reason I'm not surprised by that revelation...):

Ah well, that just makes all the slash that much more hilarious to me. I did read the first Twilight (loaned to me by the tween fan I just mentioned) and even I picked up some lesbian subtext between Bella & Alice and not surprised there's a lot of fanfic on it. And then there's this:

I'm sorry,
but the whole werewolf,
vampire thing never did anything for my man bits..

I mean...
anorexic thin,
corpse-complexioned,
blood sucking,
ancient old men
are kind of a turn off
when you think about it
(at least for me).

Blackbat

And werewolves?

Come on,
that's borderline bestiality...

Dogrun

Sure,
there are whacked out people
who are into that sort of thing,
but not my cup of tea...

Just saying...
