Father Disowns Homophobic Daughter in Epic Letter

[Image: de1cf47e-2c90-4153-9233-a859813d87d6_138...75_n-1.jpg]FCKH8Today in awesome parenting news: A father, who learned that his daughter disowned his grandson because he was gay, responded in the most amazing way.

Dear Christine,

I’m disappointed in you as a daughter. You’re correct that we have a “shame in the family”, but mistaken about what it is. Kicking Chad out of your home simply because he told you he was gay is the real “abomination” here. A parent disowning her child is what goes “against nature.” The only intelligent thing I heard you saying in all this was that “you didn’t raise your son to be gay." Of course you didn’t. He was born this way and didn’t choose it any more than he being left-handed. You however, have made a choice of being hurtful, narrow-minded and backward. So, while we are in the business of disowning our children, I think I’ll take this moment to say goodbye to you. I now have a fabulous (as the gays put it) grandson to raise, and I don’t have time for heart-less B-word of a daughter. If you find your heart, give us a call. – Dad.

The letter was posted on Monday to the pro-gay youth organization FCKH8's Facebook page. It received more than 5,000 shares, 11,000 likes, and 600 comments. FCKH8 spokesperson Luke Montgomery spoke to the grandfather and grandson to confirm that the letter is real. "We get letters and emails from fans of our equality T-shirts all over the world who want us to share it on Facebook and spread the word for the cause," Montgomery tells Yahoo Shine. "The teen who sent this in has one of our 'Some Dudes Marry Dudes' T-shirts and we are going to be sending his grandpa a free 'Straight Against Hate' tee for being such an awesome example and inspiring so many even though it was by accident."

Many parents get it and are expressing their unconditional love in various ways, from penning heartfelt letters to posting Facebook updates that have quickly gone viral. In September, when Michelle Conway McClain from Union, Missouri, learned that her son had come out on Facebook, she posted a response on her own page: "Zach, I was surprised by your Facebook post where you came out. I want you to know that I love you unconditionally. I love you with my actions, not just my words. I'm so proud of you. You are the bravest person I know. I'll fight for you always. Your sexual orientation does not define you. You are still the boy who forever won my heart. The only thing that concerns me is the number of empty soda cups and tea bottles in your room. Throw them away before ants come inside. I love you always, Mom."

In March, a father who overheard his son contemplating how to reveal his sexuality, intercepted him with this note: "I overheard your phone conversation with Mike last night about your plans to come out to me. The only thing I need you to plan is to bring home OJ and bread after class. We are out, like you now. I've known you were gay since you were six, I've loved you since you were born. PS: Your mom and I think you and Mike make a cute couple." The letter was also posted on FCKH8's Facebook page.

And in January, a 15-year-old named Laurel came out to her parents by baking them a cake (she called it a "gayke") with a message that in part read, "Your acceptance would be the icing on the cake." Then, they ate cake.

Yeah, there is definitely some nice stories floating around recently and I have enjoyed reading them and they restore my faith in humanity...but there is just the slightest niggle in the back of my mind that some of these letters could be staged.

But the sentiment is awesome I I do believe they can encourage younger people.

As well meaning as the message was meant to be, I actually find it to be very cyclic and kinda self serving...

So He Disowns his Daughter for Disowning her Son/His Grandson?

Wonder where she got that from?

I'm not excusing any thing of any sort, but really, playing monkey see monkey do, is not going to get people anywhere.

But you know what, that's them, whatever works for them, but I just find it odd.

I say Fuck Hate too, but I also don't believe alienation and ostracizing people is the answer. Actually, isn't that the problem?

I could just be an out of date hippy, but hey, out of date doesn't mean expired.

Good for the "Fabulous" Grandson.

I can see what you mean but I don't really believe the disowning carried out by the mother and grandfather are all that comparable. He's disowning her for a very bigoted and very conscious DECISION she made. It's not the same as her disowning her gay son.

However, of course you're right that alienation is not the answer.

and to add to that I just think dad/grandad is trying to drive a more powerful message home to his daughter.

Gotta say that the letter was pretty epic. I hope the mother did make it up to the kid!

Yes you guys, I truly do get what was trying to be accomplished, but I simply don't get the method?

I don't wanna sound like a flower-child, but I was raised to forgive and include people.

You don't have to be their BF 4 Lyfe, but it doesn't mean you just shut that person down or out. To me, it achieves nothing.

Yes she disowned her son and she made the decision consciously and purposefully, but so did the Grandpa and he did it for his dislike of her bigotry, just as she did for her dislike or perhaps intolerance of her son's Homosexuality.

They both, in my eyes, did the same thing, just for different reason and either way, both to me are wrong.

Don't get me twisted, he can cuss that bitch till her titties landslide, but he should've never disowned her. Neither should she have to her son, but two wrongs don't make a right...

It's just a big circle of dislike and intolerance and alienation and I just don't get it.

Can't they just kindly tell each other to fuck off and do better by each other?? Like regular families? Msn-slapping

Someone calls me a Fag or whatever? Okay fine, I'll still say good morning to you, I'll still say have a good day, I will not cut that person out, simply for what they think or feel. It's when they're wrong and depict me wrong, will I verbally fuck their shit up.

I don't know, I'm just a weirdo I suppose... nothing I can do. Coffee

I blame my mother, she's very open, honest and real, so I suppose I got it from her... She calls me Bitch! lol I be like, kiss this Ass momma! (lovingly of course!)
