Is obesity a problem?
#21
Too sum it up, Obesity is a "big" problem, and in some cases it's starting to become 'the elephant in the room'.

The moral answer is to accept it as it is. If people are content on being obese then that is there choice, it doesn't make them any more hideous than you or me. But as people have stated, being obese is really unhealthy and can result in a bad case of death at an earlier age. And for that reason it is a problem. On the flip side, it's just as bad being really skinny, every-bodies shape and size is different, and with that everyone has there own battle, learning to understand their own body and what you need to eat and drink to keep it healthy.

As I mentioned before, it's starting to become like the elephant in the room, it's hard to discuss in case feelings are hurt. But really, In my case, I just want those around me to live as long as possible. It brings up a moral dilemma really.

And to clarify, I'm a bit on the chubby side and my diet is awful. But, knowings half the battle and it can be hard to quit bad habits and get into a better routine.

Ok, I'ma end that this here, I'm rambling which is making me think of other things to ramble about and before you know it we'll have a book! Hope I don't offend anyone, I know we have larger members on the forum. And hope they don't see this as an offensive attack. It's not a bad thing, but it can be problematic.

I know. Bighug

Watching over Bob and being the head cook has been a real learning experience for me. I keep a complete log of everything in the kitchen, from how much to specific ingredients.

Mind I also have to sit there and calculate how much Vitamin K I am dumping into his system since he is on Warfarin and Vitamin K levels have to remain the same. And salts have to be taken into consideration for the BP and Heart.

Balancing out proteins, sugars and calories - sheesh.... Its a lot of maths - maths suck

Its not easy. Not at all easy.

I have managed to keep his warfarin level between 2.4 and 2.6 - which according to doctor is a minor miracle. Bob has lost 8 pounds over the past two months - again a minor miracle owning to the fact he is still refusing to exercise.

Doctor wants me to get Bob to at least 190 pounds, would prefer closer to 160 - currently Bob is at 212, he was 221 at hospital. Yes apparently Doctor believes I have a magic wand in my pants... Rolleyes

to those that say because of certain health conditions they can't lose weight, its not true.

Yes it certainly can make it much harder, especially some medications such as those that suffer cancer may have to take, and diabetics will have a hard time. But it is not impossible.

The best thing to do is to speak to a doctor or someone that is actually educated on such things to work out how to maintain your health while also addressing weight loss if it is something you want to do (you need to WAN'T it, you can't just fluff around the bush).

I would recommend people speak to a nutritionist but I have rarely met ones that were anything more than bro-science and bullshittery. Doctors still give better advice IMO.

All of this does take time to work out what works best for your own body and situation, but once you discover it, it is an easy process. Health problems that make it impossible to lose weight are extremely rare.

I think the meaning of the word "obese" is being misunderstood in this thread. Obesity means the huge overweight that is already dangerous to the person's health when slightly overweight person can be in better shape than a skinnier one. The lack of six-pack doesn't make you obese, the fact that you can't walk anymore or fit from the normal doorways, that's obesity.

It's unfortunate that today's ideal beauty is very thin body, which is impossible to reach for the most of us, but also the photos that shows all these thin, gorgeous beauties (women and men) are usually manipulated at least a little. The reality is different, but we are made to believe that everyone should be thin, have six-pack and all. Normal human body is actually considered as ugly??

This is definitely obese:

Overweight yes, obesity no:

One way to have a six-pack Wink

And I end this little thoughts of mine with this:
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"
