Lately I have been receiving strange e-mails supposedly coming from China, saying that they have seen my (non-existent) web page and asking me to submit quotes for supplying various items. Anyone have any idea what this might be about?

Oy this could be a long one, so I'll be brief.
The key is never respond.
Yr mail adress has been added to a list of "possibilities"
Hundreds and hundreds of thousands of the same mail have been sent out
You answer, you become:-
1) a valid address your details are sold again
2) a potential mark, (you are the elevated out of the very, very large selection base, and systematically honed in on by a series of questions and instructions to which you respond
This "selection process" continues until your address is identified as a "mark"
Upto now the whole process is electronic. Thereafter you are contacted and the scam is initiated.
Stupid, mis-spelt and irrelevency are part of the selection process and are done purposefully.
No 1 rule, delete, I'm sure you have done so.
Hope this explains

I move to spam folder and forget about it. Same with the poor guy from Africa begging me to boost his royal ass...ets or something...
I also don't give out my email addresses without caution. If a site requires an email account, I have my third 'junk mail' email account that I use to register.
But then I refrain from joining news letters, groups, forums and all of that other stuff. I definately don't get jokes sent to me, or game news and other useless data.
As such, my primary and business email addresses get very little spam.

I was going to say that in my OP but thought it might be too obvious. I never respond.
