Here's a subject most gay men probably don't like to discuss: Mel Gibson.
I know I'm going to be butchered for saying this but I once showed my students (17 - 19 y.o.) a clip from Apocalypto. It was just a 20 minute clip and it was heavily edited (I removed the human sacrifices and all scenes with the jaguar) but they were scared shitless.
I meant well (the subject was impartiality in the media and I wanted them to discuss if the movie was racist or not) but I won't try it again.
Back to Mel: he's obviously talented but he hates Jews and gay men (he seems to approve of lesbians, though), so what should we do to him?
His case is similar to Leni Riefenstahl, even though Mel never actually cooperated with a nazi regime. And in both cases, I believe the art should be preserved, even though the artist is a bad human being.
My verdict: punish Mel Gibson but as long as he keeps making great movies, let him do his work. Two wrongs don't make a right.
