True. However, apologies are transient things. How long they mean it isn't to be known. One hopes but then, one hopes for many things, whether they'll come to pass or not is another issue. So accept the apology, remember it and hope nothing will transpire for which another apology will be necessary.

I have the uppermost respect for an addict that can walk away from their addiction. I just hate to see them killing themselves, no matter what I do my love isn't enough to help. But everything was forgiven the moment he asked.
