Stick to the plot. If romance is not needed, get rid of it

I'm big on sappy movies and romantic stuff. I have major gayness

I remember seeing a gay film that was just so badly directed. I mean it looked like it had been filmed in the 1970s instead of the 2000s, you couldn't even hear the audio, the acting was fucking awful, the plot was stupid and yes clichéd - the homophobic yobs are closet cases... as usual! I mean really?! I wish I could remember the title but yes it was mega trite. Even I could make a better gay movie and I know I'd suck at it!

I think gay movies work well by themselves - they work better when they incorporate elements from other genres like horror and comedy. Unless its something like Dante's Cove, it usually works better.

As for mainstream clichéd films there's Notting Hill (complete with ridiculius OTT chase scene at the end and a totally unrealistic portrayal of London as a shangri-la), L'Auberge Espagnol and Poupees Russes - two awful rom-com films from France... American Pie movies (I mean seriously? Haven't these ran on long enough?)...

I really liked the film Keep the Lights on. "Gay" film without being sappy. Of course, it kind of goes in the other direction of dark and depressing, but not before showing a lot of the complications that come with love and addiction.
It's also based on the filmmaker's experience with a former flame.

Movie romances are the reason why gullible fools believe that you meet someone, look into their eyes over dinner, fall in love and have sex then 2 hours later be a married couple planning family happily ever after.
