True Detective: Season 2 Episode 1

It wasn't without it flaws; it had what seemed at times conspicuously imperfect characters, crow-barred in female roles (no doubt in response to the moaners who complained about a lack thereof in S1), and maybe a slightly unfocused story here and here, but I did enjoy it overall. I thought Taylor Kitsch and especially Colin Farrell were pretty good, and I was intrigued by the big case. (And, oh, yeah, there was shot of a naked-from-behind Taylor Kitsch, which was cool.)

So far looking forward to see how it all plays out.

I just saw Godzilla of 2014. That movie is A.W.E.S.O.M.E! [Image: headbang.gif] Can't wait for the second part to be released, if there's gonna be a second part.

HBO's True Detective Season 2, Episode 5

'Other Lives'

It's the show so many love to hate? I say it's mostly bull cos I don't think it's nearly a bad as all that. It may be flawed but I'm still into it. (And if I recall correctly the flawed first season drew its fair share of criticism, too. Well, up until about episode four when the entertainment media started telling everyone how great it was.)

The Detectives:

Whether shoehorned or not the Rachel McAdams' character has grown on me. I think the problem with the role (if any) may be that Nic Pizzolatto just isn't very strong when it comes to writing female leads. I suppose Taylor Kitsch's Officer Woodrugh is nice to look at, but the personal storyline is a little tedious. Finally, Detective Ray Velcoro is easily the most compelling character and I don't think I'd be nearly as invested in the series if it weren't for Colin Farrell's awesome performance. He absolutely steals the show. Great!

Next up is 'Church in Ruins', a.k.a. the big suck-&-suck fest.

Narcos

Season 1 on Netflix. 10 episodes. Fictional account of the life and times of one Pablo Escobar. Too good to binge watch, I'm trying to savor each and every episode on a weekly or so basis.

Netflix takes on the infamous Medellín drug cartel in "Narcos," which follows the rise and fall of Colombian kingpin Pablo Escobar and the Drug Enforcement Agency agents hunting him. The story is told largely from the points of view of Escobar, played by Brazilian actor Wagner Moura, and U.S. DEA Agent Steve Murphy (Boyd Holbrook), on opposite sides of what would become an all-out war. The gritty drama begins with the early days of the drug battle, when the biggest offenders were "hippies in flip-flops" caught with up to a kilo of marijuana, continuing to the violent, bloody battles between members of the cartel peddling tons of kilos of cocaine and drug agents from Colombia, Mexico, and the U.S. -- a struggle estimated to have cost at least 4,000 lives over two decades. Pedro Pascal ("Game of Thrones") co-stars as Mexican DEA Agent Javier Peña.

First episode date: August 28, 2015
Directors: José Padilha
Program creator: Chris Brancato
Languages: Spanish, English
