Many people find nothingness to be terrifying.
That reminds me of a scene in a Firefly ep where River & Tam Simon are hiding outside the ship in deep space (wearing space suits of course) and River smiles at the glorious view of deep space around them while Simon cringes, refusing to look more than a second, hanging on to the ship for dear life.
If our species survives long enough and masters gravity then I bet "space surfing" using gravity belts or other tools will become exceedingly popular, especially say around the moons of Jupiter or Saturn. 'Course even those enthusiasts would likely hesitate before trying their sport out in deep space light years from anything at all...
