There is a PM feature which may not be available until your post count reaches 50 (or some such). Look down to the bottom left of your browser window. There may (or may not) be a blue tab that says "Who's Online". When it is there and you click on it, you can see a list of names online. When you click on a name, that starts a IM with that member.

I once said to Mindy that if you know what punctuation is I've yet to see any indication of it. LOL!!
