Got a terrible sore throat and wondering if all the medicines that are supposed to help are actually placebos because they are doing nothing to help me in the slightest

Depends on where the sore throat is coming from but gargling salt water often helps. If it is post-nasal drip, I use Afrin nose spray for no longer than three nights--nights only--to allow me to get some rest. Drink LOTS AND LOTS of fluids. Things like warm slightly sweet tea, chicken or beef broth cubes help. Grandma's remedy: a little honey or sugar, some ginger, juice of a lemon, a good tot of whiskey and fill up the mug with hot water. Soothing. Besides, thinking of grandma makes me feel good any time.
