Undoubtedly true for the USA and Europe. But there are lots of places where it will probably never be recognized. Probably most of Africa. Interestingly, there is gay marriage in South Africa, and gays have equal rights under the South African constitution - mostly because one of Mandela's confidants and clandestine supporter was a gay man.

I am astounded how far the western world has come in my lifetime. I never thought I'd get married. But here I am, almost 27 years together and legally married in much of the US, with the rest likely to follow along shortly. Fabulous!
