summer travelling advice

Hey guys, I really want to travel before I go back to uni so I want to go away for like 3 to 4 weeks. I'm thinking of either France or Belgium or either backpacking through a couple of European cities. I will be travelling on my own and I want to do it as cheaply as possible. I don't want to stay at home for the rest of the summer. So I decided to come here for advice and want to get others opinions which will all be really helpful. So what do you guys think?

Must be a European thing. I don't think many Americans that aren't homeless do this these days.

Heart - sounds like a fun way to spend the summer. My brothers did that many many years ago. I tended to prefer being behind the wheel of a vehicle. Still do. So my trips are road trips. Off for 3 weeks in August, including some ultimate camping locations.
