Ok here's a stupid question: I know what a moka pot is but how does it work exactly? You just heat the water and then pour in the coffee? Can you heat other liquids in it, as well?

No, it's only for coffee. There is a chamber you fill with water, a middle chamber you fill with coffee, you put it on the stove and it heats up, forcing the water up through the coffee and into the upper third chamber. You can google for a you tube video which will demonstrate.
