How do I stop talking about the same topics all the time?

MikeW,

There is a lot of pressure for people with Aspergers to change and be "more like normal (ugh) people" not only from family and friends, but some medical professionals as well. The idea that I had to be like everyone else to survive was constantly forced down my throat before I got a correct diagnosis.

It's really sad.

Please don't take offense, I mean no disrespect, just being honest.

What you are describing sounds like self-centered apathy and anyone can find themselves in that state of mind, it is not unique to just people with autism.

The feedback from others you've received most likely stems from them feeling frustrated and resentful because to them it may seem like you could care less.

Get out of your head and try taking a genuine interest in other people and their lives.
Having specific interests is fine and also has nothing to do with autism, but being so engrossed in your own world and obsessed with something is not healthy for you or anyone else in your life. Try opening your mind up to new possibilities, new and different interests and hobbies....live a little, step outside your bubble, you'd be surprised what you may find.
