Our local NPR station wrote this feature about two home designers who create artistic plans showing the layout and decoration of various homes from TV shows and movies.
Floor Plans for Favorite Sitcom Homes
The designers meld what they can observe from the sets, exterior shots of the homes, and what they know about architecture and design to create the plans. Sometimes they have to work through inconsistencies from one episode to another or obvious ways that a TV set departs from reality. One example is from The Golden Girls, where they come and go through a kitchen door that implies the garage is behind the house, when the exterior shot shows it facing the street. Other times when they visit the garage, it is off to the left of the living room, when the exterior shot shows it on the right.
Both the designers, who apparently once got into a legal dispute but have since resolved their differences, sell the plans as artwork, for gifts, etc.
Some of the other shows represented are Seinfeld, Friends, Sex in the City and I Love Lucy.
