A moving account. Thank you.

Sadly, the video's title is completely wrong. The heart indeed forgets, which is the great tragedy of Alzheimer's and dementia. I can remember exactly when my grandmother no longer recognized me. She was well past speaking due to her stroke, but I could always read her eyes. It was very painful to see her view me as a stranger. I was most certainly the last loved one she recognized.

But, you know what? Life is much more than the end. She lived 89 great years before she declined to require nursing care. Her last three years are not what I remember, but those 89 good ones in which she was fully herself. Today, on Thanksgiving, I am deeply grateful to have known her and shared her rich life and brilliant mind.

I have to log off and dry my eyes. Thank you for that. A beautiful life is worth a few tears of remembrance.

Thanks for sharing that with us. You have a healthy way of dealing with it.
My grandma who is 99 and recently put on hospice but with a sharp mind has always
been special to me. Yesterday she called me baby boy like she always did and reminded me I have a birthday coming up in a few days. Here she is on oxygen and morphine and she is thinking about me. I laid my head on her chest and cried. I was glad that she smelled just like she always did and not like a care facility.
