I am particularly affected by number 2 since I have visited Syria, seen the Aleppo souk, the Krack des Chevaliers and Palmyra. Alas, they are no more.
Here's a couple of photos I took in 2002. The first one is the collonade round the central courtyard of the Great Mosque of Aleppo. I love its cool simplicity. The second one is just a small part of the the Palmyra complex.
