Our friend and fellow benefactor Albert Maysles is gone.....for anyone who doesn't know him and his brother....well...you're either too young or you don't care for documentaries.
The Maysles 'Salesman'. Gimme Shelter' and of course the epic 'Grey Gardens' redefined the entire American documentary landscape.
I am glad to have had some time with Albert in New York this past November....during dinner, he very sweetly and generously allowed an over eager fan to sit and talk to him at length about their own project. He was a great teacher and a wonderful man.
The world is poorer for him leaving it.
