It has been 30 years now since Reagan and Bush Sr tried to sweep it under the rug...and religious leaders like Jerry Falwell and Jimmy Swaggart told the wolrd this was God's punishment for us....
...and tens of thousands of gay men had died or were living with AIDS....
...and it was also the year the very best in people started to emerge. The bad guys don't always win....
Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager recorded it...and Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder recorded it in 1985....
..and from the end of 1985 through 1986 it became the #1 song of the year on Billboard...and all the proceeds went to AIDS research and it raised the awareness of AIDS and what was happening soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much......
A lot of you probably weren't even born yet....
So...I wanted to take a moment to thank them for their important contribution...and in a time when alot of people were pointing fingers and throwing stones...it was really cool to have people who were caring and compassionate to drown out all the hate.....
I was in Hawaii when I first saw this...
They deserve our thanks....then...and now...
