While traveling to Germany on a vacation in 2011, on the first day of travel my backpack tore apart so that one compartment was always open. Major nuisance, since the trip involved several sprints through crowded airports to try and make flights. I finished the trip which was more stressful than usual because of a date at the U.S. embassy in Frankfurt and was so relieved to be back home, that I emptied to backpack and tossed it down our trash-chute with relish.

Only to dive through the dumpster downstairs 2 days later to retrieve my work-badge which was still in the backpack. Not a great value, but ugh.
