Can red wine keep your heart healthy?

But that's not an excuse to over indulge.

I have always heard that it does help with hearth health....

There are so many risk factors for heath disease...they are endless.

The good thing...so many things anyone can do to improve their heart health...always good to add another one to the mix....

This one seems to be following the path of eggs and butter. Some say yes and some say no. The way I see it they are all good things as long as you don't overdo. Wine packed in boxes that keeps for a while can be a good thing if you want just a glass or two per day.

I'm pessimistic about 'studies reveal' sort of articles, they are often onesided, leave out data and in many cases a new study comes out years or a decade later that says 'oops - forget that other study, we were wrong.'

Remember when eggs decided to rise up and kill us all with massive heart-attacks? Well a few years ago another study came out that revealed that 'oops' were were wrong. But the damage was done, there are still people today who think eggs are launching off the shelves to commit wholesale murder.

Saccharine is considered a cancer causing agent. However whilst the media harped on how rats died from cancer in "studies" what they failed to mention is that the rats were given several times over their body weight of the substance. Several years ago (decade or even more) another 'study' redid these 'experiments;' but instead of injecting what amounts to tons of chemical into the rats, they keep the diet on par to what a human is likely to devour - guess what, hardly no cancers - in fact the cancer rate was pretty much on par with the control group.

In another study to test the addiction of hard drugs, scientists isolated rats and gave them two bottles, one with a drug of choice, the other with plain water. Nearly all the rats in that study became 'addicted' to the drug of choice.

THAT study was reviewed a couple years ago. This time the researched made Rat Heaven on Earth, filled with a nice sized group of rats (rats are social creatures) and the two bottles. While nearly all the rats tried the drug water, a few did so a bit more recreationally, only a couple ended up being addicts.

Why? Because rats are social creatures (And so too are humans). Apparently isolating a rat is cruel and unusual emotional abuse, and the rat turns to 'happiness' in a bottle (drug of choice). The findings of this research totally turns over years of advice and 'drug treatment' and even Alanon suggestions of Tough Love in humans. Since apparently pushing an already lonely human being further away causes them to see happiness in other ways, since their social needs are not met.

I can go on with lots of other 'studies' that were badly, or poorly done.

I'm willing to bet that in this 'wine study' that there are a bit of fudged data, a lots of errors and eventually someone will come along and do another study and tell us 'Never mind - wine is just wine, it don't do nothing except make you intoxicated or slightly tipsy)

I have asked my doctor about this and he said it was...and I have some family members who were also told this by their doctors and they swear by it.

Mmmm, might open a bottle tonight. Trouble is that I find alcohol puts my blood sugar up. Decisions, decisions.

The best advice I heard on the topic was if you already drink, do so in moderation.
If you don't drink, don't start just because there are claims of health benefits. There are other ways to be healthy, too.

Go for a walk.
