The Episcopal Church today became the third U.S. based Christian denomination to approve marriage equality.
By an overwhelming majority, the House of Deputies (made up of elected clergy and laity from each of the 100 dioceses) voted to follow the House of Bishops in approving the measure which will change "man and woman" to "the couple" in the marriage liturgy. Clergy are not compelled to perform the services if they object, but every diocese must have a pastoral means of supporting same-gender couples who wish to marry.
