Smart Phone Question - OnePlus One
#1
Hi guys,

Anyone owns a OnePlus One smart phone?

My Iphone 4, which I bought on last 2011 is finally dying. I stumbled into OnePlus One on the Internet. I've never used Android smart phone but I'm intrigue by the phone.

So if anyone owns OnePlus One, can you please share your thoughts on the phone. I'm interested to purchase it over Iphone 6 if its worth it.

Much appreciated.

Oh, it's okay. Settled with decision.

I've read reviews on OnePlus One users from Reddit. It has a touch screen issue.

So just ignore this thread. Thanks.

If you are looking at switching to a android phone look into the Samsung note or galaxy phones. I've never really had any issues with them except for battery life. But that's more because I'm on my phone all the time.

been using it almost a year, no touch screen issue. best phone i have ever had. the price was excellent when i bought it year ago - about 350 euros /64gb model. the latest update is buggy though, dont know if it is a googles fault (in android os) or cyanogen mess, but battery is running too fast sometimes. and there is bug in os, it takes about 30second before it askes you to give the sim pin code but only after the reboot. still a bug.

and oneplus two is coming. their server was down on the last night. the invite system is different and you can give your email to get an invite. they opened it on yesterday and immediately the amount of names jumped high and their server couldnt handle more... havent tested it today.

im not still sure will i buy the oneplus two or not, because it has no wireless charger (neither one has). and the qualcomm chip (810) has some overheating problems and manufacturers had to downclock the chip. im not sure but i read that oneplus will use the newer version 2.1 of the chip and it should handle the heat better... i think i probably still wait to see first customer reviews. and the os is not cyanogen anymore, it is their own oxygen Os now (key people from paranoid team behind). it is more vanilla than cyanogen, which is actually better. it has larger battery (3300mAh) than one has. better camera ()

but two will be more expensive than one, but definiely much less than other flagships.

it is still a small company and customer service is bad.

Always preferred Android over Apple, and have always stuck to the Samsung Galaxy series. Have had a S2, S4 and now have a S6 and have been very impressed with them all. It's all based on personal preference of course.

my last samsung phone was Note10.1 (yes a phone!) until i switched it to the oneplus one Big Grin a week ago i went to store to buy S6 Edge, but the problem was that i didnt like how webpages blended onnthe screen. it was hard to read it when the first letters blended. They should make it possible to use only the flat area and edges to edge-apps. otherwise the phone was amazing and the size was perfect.

samsung makes good high-end phones. im not a fan of touchwiz, i dont hate it but i dont like it either. i would like to get more vanilla and options to customize ui better than baked touchwiz.

Well I have been looking around for a new smart phone since last month. Despite owning an Iphone as my first smart phone, I don't have any problem to shift to an Android or to remain with an Iphone.

I was originally interested to buy Meizu or Xiaomi. They look aesthetically beautiful and I like their operating systems (Based on what I saw via Youtube and their websites). But I don't know how good these phones really are because I have never used Androids before.

I've played around with my friend's Samsung S6 but I didn't really like it. It was a great smart phone but I guess it's not my cup of tea.

Yesterday I dropped by to Maxis (Our communications service provider) to browse for new smart phones. I already have their mobile plan so all I need to do is just buy a new phone and transfer my existing line to the new phone.

I checked all available Androids and Iphone on displays. Honestly, I thought Iphone 6 is pretty ugly compare to its predecessor (Iphone 5s and even my old Iphone 4). The most beautiful Android was HTC One. But a friend of mine who owns it complained about his HTC One before.

In the end, I reserved an Iphone 6. But I will only get it in another couple of days since the color that I want (Grey/Black) was not available. I already paid $200 as a deposit. Maxis has a trade in program. So I will trade in my Iphone 4 and they will deduct $200 from the total price of Iphone 6. So the final price is $1400.

Then I went home and for whatever reason, I decided to surf Maxis website and saw OnePlus One. It wasn't available for display in Maxis center yesterday. I read reviews, checked Youtube etc. I was really impressed. The price is quite cheap too. But then I read several reviews on Reddit and few other sites saying OnePlus One has touchscreen issue.

I know every smart phone even Iphone has issues. But I don't want to risk buying a smart phone that is prone to break down or such. Iphone and Androids are pretty expensive in my country.

So here I am asking for an advice or recommendation to purchase a new smart phone.

I believe I still can cancel my reservation on Iphone 6 and shift my $200 deposit to other smart phones as long as it's under Maxis. Like I said, I don't have any issue to shift from an Iphone to an Android.

My problem is there are too many Androids to choose from and I am just a novice user so I don't know what to look for. I just need a smart phone that can do basic things; call, jotting notes, few apps, alarm clock, videos, websites and whatsapp - smoothly. I don't need advanced stuff. I don't play games on smart phone (Not into mobile games except for Scrabble).

These are the Androids available under Maxis:

Thanks guys. Much appreciated for your thoughts and recommendations.

about iphones from imore:
http://www.imore.com/iphone-6-and-iphone...nths-later

i would read the above and check reviews about other phones you are thinking... there are lot of reviews which discribe the best and worst of the phones. youtube vids are great to see them irl action.

i really cant recommend which one is the best phone. on that maxis site there are good android phones, but i have been using android phones for years and i dont like iphone - iphone is too basic for me and wouldnt buy it because of 1gb ram. but in your case it is differend thing and you are already in ios world so maybe that is best for you. maybe you should stick to your original plan and get that iphone6.

Mrex, thanks for the link. Much appreciated.

I asked Maxis center regarding to OnePlus One.

First of all, they only have limited stock therefore I have to wait for quite some time before I can get my hands on OnePlus One. Second, unfortunately OnePlus One and other Androids do not have special offer as Iphone (Trade In Program).

I can get discount on Androids and OnePlus One if I'm using a mobile plan from Maxis called Maxis One, which I do not. I'm using a different mobile plan called I-Value.

By all means, I have to pay full price of Android plus full price of the new mobile plan if I choose to buy OnePlus One or other Androids.

I had to think thoroughly on it. I eventually decided to go with Iphone 6 as I only need to pay half price of the phone. I don't need to pay for the mobile plan as I'm just transferring mobile plan from my Iphone 4 to Iphone 6.

However, I will keep my eyes on Androids. I plan to buy Androids for my parents (Their wedding anniversary is coming by).

Thanks for your help and suggestion, Mrex. It's very much appreciated.
