Cannot Install Adobe Flash Player

Hi guys,

I usually don't have any problem to solve IT related stuff but this one, eh.

Long story short, I'm trying to update my Adobe Flash Player. So I downloaded the update, double-clicked the program but nothing comes out. The installer doesn't execute.

I've re-downloaded the programs several times and so on. Failed each time.

Should I uninstall the current player before I run the installer?

P/S: Same goes with Java.

So you can't get Adobe Flash or Java to install? So if you try to run the installer, does anything, happen? Error messages?

Couple things, make sure that your windows account has administrator rights, you might also right-click the installer and choose "Run As Administrator..."

You may need to try uninstalling Adobe and with Java you should uninstall the old versions...

If you can get a screenshot. If you're using Vista/7/8 you can use the snipping tool (Start>Program>Windows Accessories>Snipping Tool) to just get a shot of the window, save it and attach to your post.

IDK the answer to your problem [MENTION=21041]Jay[/MENTION] but it may have something to do with the OS you're running... which you haven't told us.

Also... I sometimes question what's really going on when a site tells me I need to update my FP... when I know damn well I'm running the most current version.

Tricky fuckers out there. Be careful.

I'm actually still using Windows XP Pro SP2 at home. Yep, yep... Windows XP.

No error message. Simply nothing comes out after double-clicked the installer.

I will try to login as administrator and uninstall the current player as suggested.

P/S: Actually that's the thing [MENTION=20947]MikeW[/MENTION]. I can't watch porn properly lol. But I don't watch it every day...ok, I do...but it's for scientific reason. Fully educational. Ok nowadays not so much porn. But if I do, I do it to enhance my knowledge in biology...and stuff.

Ok couple of things. One you really need to get Service Pack 3 for Windows XP

However before you do that, I think you may have malware or an issue with the Windows Installer service...at the same time Service Pack 3 also has updates for the Windows Installer service... So tell me, are there any other symptoms or anything weird going on with the computer? Pop-ups...etc...

What versions of Adobe Flash and Java do you have? When were those installed?

Also, what browser are you using (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chome, something else)?

Answer those questions first, the next steps will likely be that you install Service Pack 3, but wait for my next response before proceeding with that. Also to verify what Service Pack you have, right click the "My Computer" icon and should tell you in the window that pops up.

No pops-out [MENTION=23180]axle2152[/MENTION]. But I noticed my computer becomes slightly slow/sluggish for the past few days. But I have scanned my computer with Avast and Spybot Search & Destroy. Nothing comes out.

I was thinking of doing System Restore but thought of checking other options first.

I'm currently using Shockwave Flash 19. which was updated on last year (October).

My last updated Java was Java™ 6 Update 19 in 2008. I wasn't bothered of updating Java until few weeks ago.

I'm using Firefox 44.0b.

I'm using Windows XP Professional - Service Pack 2.

Ok so both Adobe and Java are really old versions. They really should be updated on a more regular basis... more on that below..

However, if your computer has suddenly become slower may want to check the SMART status of the hard drive. SMART is a self diagnostic built into hard drives to help predict failure before it happen so you can save data before the hard disk fails. A tool I like is called Speedfan...

go to http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php and download and install Speed Fan... Run the program and click on the SMART tab, select the hard drive in the drop down list and click on "Perform Online In-Depth Analysis" get a screen shot of the page and attach to your post.

More on malware...

Spybot is pretty good, but have a look at a couple other scanning tools...

1. Malwarebytes Anti Malware http://www.malwarebytes.org/
2. Super Anti Spyware http://www.superantispyware.com/

If either of those find anything I will have more instructions...

If nothing is found. That is good. If everything checks out with the SMART data that you post I will raise the green flag for installing Service Pack 3.

I used to have problems similar to that a long time ago.

I WAS going to say that running the installer as an administrator normally got it working for me, but if I remember right, Windows XP doesn't have that as a right-click option.
