That's because your escape key really did escape.

Nah, no deleted ones for me....and this laptop is about 10 years old. Missing keys, yes...after trying to clean below them.

Years ago, when I was a more nervous gamer than I am now, I had disappearing letters literally, because I hit the keyboard a little harder than necessary and the keys flew somewhere. Once I even lost an Escape key and despite my efforts to find it I never could.
Now I don't hit the keyboard anymore and keys don't disappear. Neither do the letters. The worst that could happen with a keyboard of mine is that the keys could become harder to press or get stuck pressed. But 4 years ago I found a good AND cheap brand of keyboards that doesn't have that problem with keys getting stuck.
The last four keyboard/mouse combinations I have purchased have not been expensive, about €20 I purchased them from Lidl the German supermarket that has branches all over Europe. Everything about them is fine with the exception of the fact that the letters wear off but, as I said in a previous post, I have found the solution in the self adhesive letters that can be stuck on the appropriate keys. It's a cheaper solution than buying yet another keyboard.

Get a Delux K8050 - a regular kb without any special media keys. Idk what would be its price in UK but here it costed €4.50 2 years ago. I have that kb since then and neither the letters disappear nor the keys get stuck.
Before the Delux I had a fancy and expensive Logitech - about €20. Everyone said "Logitech the best, warranty 3 years", "Logitech this", "Logitech that" and... after 3 months of normal use the keys just stopped working. I didn't even bother with the warranty and went and bought the Delux I have now. Second year it works flawlessly, despite its warranty was just 6 months.
As for the mouse the situation is the same - the cheapest mouse A4Tech I bought (because at that time of the day I couldn't find anything better) works a little longer than a year without any problems while the previous mouse (again by the stupid Logitech) started double and triple clicking without my permission in about 5 months after I bought it.

Thanks for your suggestion Rado84 but I have to say yet again that I need a Spanish keyboard. I need special keys such as the "ñ", "¿", "¡" etc. Yes, I am aware that it is possible to programme a keyboard to produce those signs and also it is possible to produce them using different keystrokes but that slows me down. I need them actually on the keys.
I too have had problems with Logitech products. I once had a wireless rechargable mouse. It stopped working and Logitech said that it was not repairable and they were no longer manufactured.
