Trump or Hillary as President, who else is petrified?
Consider this an open invitation. Im willing to engage with people. I am very disturbed by the results of this election and its implications, as I've made clear, but I am willing to engage with anyone who wants to talk with me. Im a third party member, I was clear that I dont think voting third party is a wasted vote, Im a proud green and feel very strongly about that party's platform, and I think I was relatively open about how I went back and forth between voting green and voting for Clinton. I don't think I spoke unfairly to anyone on here. If someone feels I did, then here's an invitation to engage with me in a deeper conversation.

That said, engaging in conversation is a two way street. The burden of reaching across the divide doesn't fall on either side exclusively. Were people actually shut down on this thread? Or were they just called out? I personally only sometimes have the patience to coddle grown adults. But most the time I expect people to be able to stand up for themselves and back up their own opinions and views.

I just hate the smirky one-liners people make... It's like stupid political facebook memes. Assert an opinion without some explanation for their views. More like me saying I'm right and you're wrong, and don't fucking bother combating that because my opinion is better than yours type of attitude exhibited by others.

Some people did get called out, but see that's the thing. There's a flaw in everyone's views, somewhere, anyone's views and opinions can be picked apart if one is willing to do their due diligence in doing so. I was never on a debate team but I've seen folks who were particularly good at it and could take most people down regardless.

Me, I'm fucking tired of it. Fuck politics.

Almost ready to write off GS. Fucking chatbox has been broken for weeks.

Just so you know, I'm not going to come down on your head for voting third party. And though I voted for Clinton to oppose Trump (and really unhappy with a Trump victory), as I know many did, it annoys me that these votes against someone else are then treated as an endorsement for the "lesser evil" voted for.

Right now the general division and nastiness bothers me than any one candidate. Trump, and the election in which he won, is a symptom of a much greater problem in the USA.

Though I did vote against Trump by voting Hillary, it still hasn't escaped my attention how self-serving and manipulative a lot of rants against third party voters are, as perfectly illustrated in a comic on the previous page of this thread. More than that, I've heard those on the Democrat side have expressed a desire for mandatory voting in the USA as is done in Australia (at least it's better than the nasty tricks some Republicans use to keep people from voting), but NOT for preferential voting that is also used in Australia...because then we'd finally know how many are voting Democrat out of true solidarity, and how many are just voting Democrat because it's seen as the lesser evil (and if many are voting Democrat as the lesser evil then a third party might finally win a high office rather than a Democrat!).

And just so you know, I didn't vote Stein. I went to vote in a state I knew I was going to go blue anyway, confident as all fuck that Clinton was going to win because thats what all the media and the polls were saying, and when I held the pencil over my ballot, I made the choice in that moment that I would vote Clinton.

One, I think it is integral that we don't just say anyone can be president, but that we actually see anyone being president. I wanted to participate in the election of our first female president. She wasn't my ideal president, but she also didn't terrify me.

Two, even if Greens were the silent majority and on election night we all got shocked with a landslide election putting Stein into office, I knew that she would ill equipped to get any green policies though. Im a proud Green and firm believer in what they stand for, but I stand by what I said in this thread - You cant build the roof of the house before you build the foundation and the walls. You can't elect a Green president until Greens are well represented in congress and on the local scale.

Three, in the snowball chance in hell that Trump won the election, I know I wouldn't have felt right with myself had I not aligned my vote with the party I thought had the best chance in defeating him.

And, Im interested in what you mean when you said "Right now the general division and nastiness bothers me than any one candidate. Trump, and the election in which he won, is a symptom of a much greater problem in the USA. "

Can we talk about Steve Bannon?

For those of you who aren't as distressed by Trump as I am, or who don't believe racism plays a major role in Trump's campaign, election, and vision for America - what do you think about this guy?

I can't say I know much about him. Seems like he runs another alt-right news site, kind of like another "The Blaze" and so on...

My guess, glancing over WikiPedia, he is more likely a businessman and has a conservative "face" so not sure, he might be bad thing or a not so bad thing.

How do you feel about the alt right and their expanding platform and possible influence?

I would say it is a bad thing...looking more into this alt-right stuff... I would compare it to the same thing as extremism as it appears to be extremism. Now whether Steve Bannon actually shares the same views, that I don't know... I would think we would find a lot to suggest he does considering he runs a alt-right site and media company.

Could be a pretty bad thing but I think Trump's presidency isn't going to be favorable... I really doubt he'll have a 2nd term but that's hard to say since we haven't began to see where things will lead.
