On being trafficed for sex
#1
A fairly horrifying first hand account on what it's like to be trafficked.

When I was a runaway, I saw way more pervs coming after us than I could keep track of. The pimps were after us as well and did things like these traffickers to those they caught. (Strangely, boys were mostly left alone by pimps and such, though they seemed to be in high demand like the girls.)

The police were not only apathetic to us as in the article, but sexual assault by the cops was not unknown. One who escaped a pimp (who was said to have connections among lawyers and politicians of the city) was arrested, and when she was let out of jail her pimp and his goons were waiting for her outside...tell me the cops didn't know that. Of course the city made lots of money fining prostitutes and then turning them loose to raise the money through prostitution to pay the fines. (Guys busted for this also got the same fine, but it was for something else that I forget, I suppose to give the bizarre illusion that they only had "moral, heterosexual prostitution only.")

And that was one tiny section of one city, and cities everywhere follow a similar pattern. (One town was shown to have exotic dancers as young as 14 and the club owners said they only hired those who got a permit or some such from the police, the police stonewalled, and the report aired...giving free advertisement on where to get a lap dance, and probably more, from minors to everyone across the nation. Which was probably the plan all along.)

And despite this...sex traffickers can still regularly import slaves from foreign countries. Not brides or some such, but just more prostitutes.

What does this say about us as a nation (or even species)? They wouldn't do this if it weren't profitable, and it wouldn't be profitable unless the market is big enough to accommodate all of this through sheer volume of demand.

Thought I'd mention a Catholic Church I used to live near. They really hated gays, and when Prop 8 in CA was up for a vote they had a huge prayer meet to pray for it to pass...their parking lot wasn't enough so people parked for blocks around, sometimes blocking driveways. And when one pulled out, he did so fast to hit a cat that belonged to a neighbor of mine (she saw it happen), all after praying in church and feeling self-righteous about praying against gay marriage.

But for all their condemning of gay love, they didn't spend so much time about menacing women. At least those who were almost certainly part of that church chased me shouting lewd things once.

Even if I'm wrong about the men who chased me from being part of that church, that specific church also fought against a sexual trafficking bill that would come down hard on those who brought girls in from Mexico for prostitution (as in the article). That is the bill (which I read in the voter's pamphlet) seemed sincere in trying to combat a serious problem. The argument against it put out by that church (which was mostly Hispanic, btw) was lame. In short, they opposed gay marriage but approved sex trafficking of underage girls enough to fight a bill meant to make sex trafficking harder and punished the traffickers more.

I can just see St Peter ticking off the list when they get to the gates...

Ok, so you were opposed to two people in love being able to formally commit to a life long joining in front of our Lord... ok, ok...

Wait, you were against protecting the least of us from moral degenerates who sexually abused them. Hmmm, I think you're in the section, wait in line over there, a boat will be by soon to take you where you need to go.
