It is hard to tell when I had my first gay experience...
It could have been the crushes I had on my male friends in junior high. (The ones I ignored for a very long time.). We won't count these.
Realistically, I grew up in a very conservative household that could not have accepted homosexuality. I kept it under wraps, and forced myself into relationships with women.
I had physical encounters with men when possible, but this was sex. There wasn't anything lasting, even if I wanted it to be. We won't count this either.
No, my first gay experience came at the ripe age of 39.
Every now and then I would go to a bar to watch some particular sporting events. I preferred to go by myself and enjoy it alone. I've been doing this at the same location for probably 4-5 years. About eight months ago, a new bartender arrived. He was an extremely handsome man. Two months passed, and I had been there probably 3 or 4 times. As I settled the bill, he did something different. He placed his hand briefly on mine with a peculiar smile as he slid the billfold towards me. I opened the billfold to see the "customer copy" of the slip w/ a message.
"Your secret is safe with me. Call me handsome, xxx-xxxx". He had given me is number. He was gay.
I quickly signed it and left. I was nervous, anxious and excited all at once.
It was a week before I finally called him. We talked on the phone 2 or 3 more times before he finally asked me the question.... "Are you ready to go on a date?"
I was. I didn't pause either. "Yes".
We didn't meet at a late hour to have no-strings sex. This was something different. We went to dinner. We took a walk. He took me home. He walked me to the door. He kissed me... gently.
I can honestly say that I still haven't come down from the high from just that kiss, and it was several months ago
