Ok, having done my research, it's Mr Thomas Eakins, which makes sense. Painter, sculptor and photographer born in 1844 and who died in 1916.

Even I, not anywhere near well-educated in art, recall him for those incredible nudes so far ahead of their time. Still, we poor humanities majors do pick up a few scraps here and there. What is interesting to me is that he made such an impression when I was in school in the sixties.

Perhaps not unfair to mention, though Eakins' talent is a long way beyond titillation. Dont want to stick my artistic foot in my, er...mouth, but the paintings are damned impressive. Let's leave it at that.
