It's good to see projects like this on the go. Where I am they've launched an ambitious 10 year project to link up isolated pockets of broadleaved woodland, dotted in and around the city (Glasgow) that have been cut off by urban development. They are aiming to link all the pockets up by planting around 20 million trees over the 10 year period. We need more greenery to escape from the concrete dystopia.

The Wilderness experiment shows what’s possible when nature is allowed to create rich, native woodland for free. I think Mellanby would be pleased with how it all turned out.

I’ve always thought that man will eventually wipe himself out but nature will survive. I confess that I have been complacent, thinking that at my age, I won’t be here to see the looming catastrophe, but scientist are saying that things are moving so fast that unless we take action now, it will only be a matter of a few years before all the nations of the world will be forced in to taking joint action.
