The Mango Leaf
It blooms
The dark red leaf
On the mango tree
It takes in the sunshine
And dreams a thousand dreams
Rain falls
The leaf drinks
And it turns green
Dreams become bold
And the world looks beautiful
Birds nest
And fruits ripen
The leaf turns yellow
And it looks down to ground
Something asks it to let go and fall
Winds blow
Lightning strikes
The leaf feels heavy
It holds but the storm conquers
As it falls through the air down to the soil
Time passes
For the first time
Helpless and hopeless
A thousand feet trample on it
The leaf thinks of thoughts and reminisces
Sun shines
The leaf dries
And it turns brown
Awaiting its unknown fate
Of fire and hate, love and rain
It comes
The garden rake
Cruelly tosses it in the bin
And dumps it onto the rubbish dump
The leaf thinks of a better place and time and life
It crackles
The fire burns
Engulfs the leaf in flames
It could say nothing, nothing to say
Grey ash, all that is left of the red leaf that dreamed and fell
The dark red leaf
On the mango tree
It takes in the sunshine
And dreams a thousand dreams
Rain falls
The leaf drinks
And it turns green
Dreams become bold
And the world looks beautiful
Birds nest
And fruits ripen
The leaf turns yellow
And it looks down to ground
