#1
Anyone wanna try to explain what is going on at the central office of my DSL provider Verizon...

Rolleyes This is what I was told:

Rolleyes something about "CFA change"... "equipment change at the central office" ...

Rolleyes "A port needs to be changed at the central office."

Rolleyes They said something about this being a very big job, actually replacing a large device of some sort... and would take 24 to 48 hours... Seems like they may be replacing something major and maybe updating it but that wasnt said.

Rolleyes Can anyone explain what is going on and if this is all bull or something major happened Scared

***That subject line should be all caps!!! I have noticed this before and did change in preview previous... seems like we cant change it after posting... but wtf, why all caps suddenly is "fixed"?

"They eventually decided to do a CFA change, which I agreed to, anything might work. That basically means changing my spot in the CO incase the LT card I am on is bad"

Found at Review of Verizon Online DSL - dslreports.com

I think it emans they are changing some server card that allows you access through their distribution network.......like an upgrade to allow faster speed etc.

I wouldn't have a clue.. Cardshark and Andy are quite technical... They may! And Bazz seems to have an idea

I learn to love it more and more.

Tell them its a absolute joke that they don't have some kind of backup to provide you with a internet connection.
What if you was a business and the DSL company took down your internet, they would shit themselves and fix it within a matter of hours.

I dunno if their talking shit or not, just push them to get off their arse and fix it.

I've had something similar happen with two previous ISPs over the past 15 (?) years. If this is the way they treat you, it is not good enough. I cancelled my subscription and moved after they failed to give me any reasonable assurances.

DSL: Digital Subscriber Line
CFA:  i don't know  but should i???
A Port: ... at home that would be where you connect a network cable to

you'd have your DSL Modem... there'd be a phone-line connection (for
the incomming DSL) plus a port on the back of it where you'd connect your
router...then to the router you'd connect a hub, that would have more
ports...to those ports is where you'd connect computers

in commercial stuff, A Port would be simmilar, but ofcourse there'd be
a hell of allot more data flowing through the network, and stacks of
routers & hubs with many ports... they wouldn't be just replacing one
port, probably an entire rack (or more) of equipment
that rack (or racks (or room)) of equipment may handle just the data
form one very high speed Optical Carrier (OC) line coming in

A large ISP should have more than one (OC) line ... meaning you should
not loose internet connectivity, but it may be slow if one line is down

biggest problem is there are very few choices. Cable or sat DSL vs Cable and Cable is a horrible choice here.

The great American business model of monopoly!

It will soon be 48 hours and have been promised a hookup Clap
