Thought this was a little bit interesting about identity conflicts in British Gay Pakistani Muslims.

Do we have anyone on here who can contribute authoritatively on this? It would be really interesting to have a British gay Pakistani Muslim's point of view first hand. The closest I can come to it is through the religion I was brought up in. Some said it was a test from God, as was living with a disability! Others said it was the influence of Satan, a loss of faith, an exhibition of wilfulness and disobedience to the laws of God ... and so on.

Strange, no one ever told me that gay men had contributed much to life, society and culture and that our sexuality was part of a marvellous diversity of existence, should be celebrated and our contributions embraced.

Back on topic, I'm still watching the Eastenders storyline with interest.

I can't speak for them but I was taught that homosexuality was the influence of Satan. This 'ideology' has been planted in our high school's text book for ages.

There's also another disgraceful subject that has been planted in our minds since we were kids but it has nothing to do with homosexuality. But I think I should leave that one out as it really discomforting.

1. No but the book referred to by the original poster gives us the evidence presented by 12 Pakistani gays living in the UK.
2. Your religion (and mine) seems to have taught you much the same lessons that Islam taught the Pakistani gays. The difference between us and British gay Pakistanis is that our culture allows and sometimes encourages us to criticize the church. I dread to think what would happen to British gay Pakistanis who criticized Islam.
