San Francisco Jan 16th Suggestions?

Oh my way to SF and then to the Netherlands to do my exchange.
Just wondering what is the must sees in SF. I've got the lonely planet and have been reading. The castro, golden gate bridge park, chinatown are surely places I would go.
What else? Any advices on bars?
I didn't book the gay friendly element hostel - like the only one in SF who has the label of gay friendly. BUt it had terrible rating and review. Booked the pacificwinds hostel. Hope it would be good.

walk around take the trolley see as much of the city as you can it is beautiful LOOK at Lombard street but do not try to walk it trust me on this VERY steep grade
