It depends on the extent to which your intentions are "honourable" 
If you are thinking that this could be someone with whom you would like to develop a relationship that lasts for a while it is worth taking it easy and working on the friendship until a way becomes clear, which it probably will eventually. If, however, you like him, but not quite enough to bother with a long term relationship you could try and edge things along a bit. JBrowder24's and Rychard's advice both look pretty sound (as usual, in both cases) to me.
