Christine and the Queens & Cerrone - Catching feelings
Marc Cerrone, a French artist with Italian immigrant roots, rose to prominence in the late 1970s as a pioneer of Italo-disco's cool, synthetic rhythms. His 1977 masterpiece, "Supernature," is an undisputed dancefloor anthem, its hypnotic pulse often gracing movie soundtracks, perhaps most memorably in the electrifying opening sequence of Gaspar Noé's Climax.
A shared experience at last year's Paris Olympic festivities — Cerrone's "Supernature" electrifying the Olympic Opening Ceremony and Christine And The Queens performing at the Paralympic Opening Ceremony — has blossomed into a new artistic partnership. The first fruit of this collaboration, a single, dropped on May 23rd.
"Catching Feelings," the debut track from their reported four-track EP, is an immediate, hard-hitting club banger. Its pulsing, shimmering sound evokes the best of early-80s club music, yet somehow feels remarkably fresh and relevant today. The track's dance-intensive video was directed by Christine And The Queens herself.
