rakmatis Wrote:What we had wasnt too scary, I know that there was some crazy storm hit in Alabama not too long ago, over 100 twisters touched down in under an hour. One of the guys I work with said his hometown was destroyed, but only 5 people died in it. of course that was only 1 of the 100 tornadoes so yea...

Ill be safe as long as im not at work. The barracks are concrete and metal, as long as we stay away from windows we are pretty safe. but at work in the hangars.... not so much, everyone has to crowd into the bathrooms which are the only concrete places.

Zeon, you should come visist me, we get sheet lightning, its like the sky at night has traffic in it, theres just waves of lightning, not bolts, its AMAZING.

I am obsessed with lightening big time... I dont fear it i love being out in it... Ive driven back from folkstone UK during one and the hailstones were bigger than golf balls it was manic and i couldnt see ahead of me... I just imagen the road a nice sunny day and can work out when i need to turn whilst driving

Last year this time there was a major hailstorm that put some hurting on Oklahoma City. Softball sized hail. During the tornado they were mostly quarter sized, but there was one the size of a volleyball in the city...

Glad to hear you're ok rakmatis

The worst i've seen where i live is hailstorms.. we had one around 5 or 6 years ago. while it was going it was loud LOL afterwards it looked kinda like winter/snow, but mixed with shreaded leaves from the trees...

I love watching thunderstorms! and heavy rain. I've never seen a tornado (really doesn't happen here in general) but if i ever did, I wouldn't be hiding in the basement, I'd be grabbing the camera!!

lol, youd be crapping your pants when the tornado gets close. The wind is so strong that the rain and random debris blind you...

I've seen four or five tornadoes, almost all of them while driving. I am not a storm chaser, but I've driven a great deal in parts of the GP. I had friends that were storm chasers, however, they seemed to enjoy it a great deal. I can certainly say that every time I have seen one it got my heart pumping and filled me with adrenaline, so, I can see how people who are thrill seekers would enjoy it.

I like storms, but I prefer to watch them through a window or even on the patio on a nice, safe, and comfortable home.

72Jay, you must be from southern Colorado, having only seen one hail storm in five to six years. I cannot imagine so infrequent an occurrence in the northern or central part of the state.

I think I have to agree with OKC. Most of the videos you see of tornadoes are taken from quite a distance away. People tend to get to shelter before it even gets close to them.

@rakmatis
I've been outside (at night) in wind gusts of 100+mph (but just a windstorm, not a thunderstorm - we'll get stuff like that occasionlly in the winter) I can say that wind is strong stuff

@Wintereis
I'm south of Denver (far enough that its outside city limits, but not out in the middle of nowhere either LOL) There's been plenty of hailstorms since then, just no major ones Smile

I agree that most of those videos are taken from a distance ... that's what a zoom lense is for .lol. Laugh right?

I once read the statistic that Britain has more tornados per square mile than any other country, but that we only ever get minor ones and other country's have far more square miles so get far more tornados in total. I wonder if it is true? Anyone else heard that statistic?
