Two images of European Pride
#1
On Saturday afternoon, 300 marchers in the first Croatian pride to be held in Split were being besieged by a crowd of 10,000 protesters, who eventually brought Split Pride to an end. Europe still has its dark places. more

Meanwhile a universe away at Oxford Pride the police were marching under their own banner in the parade.

A sad sight; and one that's not going to help Croatia's EU membership progression!

Approval was given for Croatia to join the EU in 2013, the day before Split Pride.

Like Poland and Lithuania before them they have had to agree to take EU equality law into account. I'm not aware that Lithuania suffered greatly when introducing their Law on the Protection of Minors against the Detrimental Effect of Public Information (their version of the UK's infamous Section 28) and has indeed gone on this year to propose further laws allowing the courts to fine anyone who discusses homosexuality with kids Sad

10,000 is a very large figure for a counter-protest. If accurate I doubt the police would have been prepared for such a number.
