Oh yeah !! That's another good thing that polytheism had/has going for it ... it boasts a FAR far greater level of interaction between God and Man ... thus promoting the pragmatic-aspects of the religion ...

Add to that the fact that, if you take any polytheistic religion, you will find that there are groups and sects devoted to the worship of that deity, often to the exclusion of others, and so you'll find that the general levels of knowledge, lore and cross-referencable material on each deity in a polytheistic religion is (I should think) considerably greater than in a monotheistic faith.

I would say that polytheistic religion is, generally-speaking, much more colourful than monotheistic ... but, again, that's just my opinion.

I notice nobody's commented on my favourite religion question as yet - it'll be interesting to see what people's thoughts on that are if/when they do Confusedmile:.

funny thing to me would be the more you talk Shadow --- the more atheist you sound
hahahah

but for the record .. think we're just here .. plain and simple .. to do whatever .. and when we die .. we're dead

I for one don't fear that or think that's a bad thing

I think really bad things happen because they happen .. I think really good things happen because they happen

I think most of us miss it because we think someone else is doing it

Totally agree,

Funny how when someone is "miraculously" saved...we hea all about it.."It was so close...it's a miracle!" "baby fell off the 17th floor and survived....a miracle!"

Nobody talks about the poor sod who got hit my frozen jet toilet goo being a "miracle" and the chances and odds were just as great. What I would love to beleive in is the idea of reincarnation.....born again and again until we learn all of lifes lessons..meeting past and future kindred souls along the way.....

But I just can't. I agree. Born, live, die...decompose and help out the food chain along the way. Considering the odds, pretty miraculous in itself.

Whereas I do believe in the notion of reincarnation and that of second-chances ... I think science is little more than mankind's way of satisfying itself that it understands more about the world than it really does ...

... as in, if I make the structure of the rules up myself, I can convince myself that I've got it licked ...

... even when I don't ...

... but it's nice to see we're learning Confusedmile:.

interesting ... well I believe in science to explain things .. this is why this happens .. this is why that happens....this is how people die .. this is how people are addicted .. etc etc etc

but then we twist science to try to "fix" everything

which I guess is sort of like religion

I think it's just that there is so much that science CAN'T explain, so yeah - at least in terms of its limitations, it and religion do have certain parallels Confusedmile:.

no, no, no.....

Not that science cannot, has not as yet. Where as religion cannot explain...only say ........trust it was this way. Considering the many religous things science has explained away....I'll stick to the scientists...at least that way I won't fall off the edge of the world on my cruise this winter ;-)

But ultimately isn't so much of BOTH faith-based ?

You put your faith in those people that have simply explained things to your satisfaction better than others, so whether that's the religious-side, or the scientific-side, really-speaking we're still following the doctine of others ...

I'll concede that scientific views have led to considerably more practically-useful developments on many more fronts than religion ... Confusedmile: ... but I still lay my loyalty with the religious side ...

Bow.
